SolarEdge has launched a Demand Flexibility Service Programme, enabling SolarEdge battery owners located in the UK to provide energy to the National Grid during peak events.
National Grid ESO is incentivising customers to reduce their electricity usage and help maintain a more stable grid during the winter season. System owners that opt into the scheme are to be reimbursed with at least £2.50 per kWh of demand reduction or energy export. Eligible customers that have a SolarEdge Home battery (UK only) and not be registered under another Demand Flexibility Service provider (sorry Octopus Savings Session fans!).
The company suggests that a SolarEdge Home Battery customer with an export MPAN Meter could earn upto £24.75 for a two-hour event. In the event of 6 x 1 hour events, it suggests a representative benefit of £75 (6 x 5kWh x £2.50). Benefits are credited in the form of Amazon eGift vouchers. They vary depending on the event and system that you have.
The company also said that each storage device is optimised remotely before the Peak events as the notice from National Grid is usually a day in advance. As soon as the Peak event is scheduled, customers shall receive an email with details, enabling to opt-out of that specific event if required.
We were blown away by the reported numbers from Octopus on their scheme and we are delighted to see more innovation with Battery Storage used in the fight against peak events in the Grid.
The programme is planned until 31st March 2023 and system owners should register with SolarEdge in advance - but registration closes on 19th February 2023. Otherwise the company will not use your device as part of it’s programme.
